Making music with other people is an essential part of any musician’s development, regardless of instrument or discipline. However, there are a variety of factors that can make it difficult for aspiring musicians to connect and collaborate.
The Collective Music Workshop provides an opportunity for young musicians of any background or musical style to explore ways of making music together in a casual, yet structured environment. Over the course of this 2-week class, students will improvise, compose original works, and arrange music for the instrumentation of the full group. Along the way, they will learn key lessons in music theory, orchestration, ear training, ensemble playing, and many other essential skills for creative musicianship.

Yes! This is an updated version of Wyatt’s previous summer workshop, the Young Improvisers Collective.
Where YIC focused on music theory and harmony as it relates to improvisation, this workshop emphasizes repertoire building and allows for differing levels of comfort and familiarity with improvisation. We will still utilize and explore music theory, improvisation, and ear training, but these skills will be applied directly as we build repertoire together.
